What Is CFD and When Should You Use It?

CFD predicts fluid flow, pressure, temperature and related forces using a digital model of the geometry and boundary conditions. It is useful when a team needs to compare design options, understand hard-to-measure flow behavior or reduce the number of physical prototypes. CFD works best when the question is specific: pressure drop through a channel, cooling performance inside an enclosure, drag around a body or airflow distribution in a room. Project-specific accuracy depends on CAD quality, boundary conditions, mesh strategy and validation data.
